The construction of the six semi-submersible rigs is a part of a 21-rig package that Petrobras negotiated with Seven Brazil.

The six rigs capable of operating at a water depth of 3,000 meters and drilling wells up to 10,000 meters in length will be used to spud wells in the Santos Basin Pre-Salt cluster.

Petrobras before agreeing to sign the contracts analysed the yard to confirm its potential capability to build the six platforms and meet all the contractual requirements to complete the project in time.

The company will use 55% to 65% local content in the construction of the drilling rigs.

Upon completion the rigs will be chartered to Petrobras for a 15-year period and Petroserv will operate three rigs, Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás will operate two, and Odebrecht Óleo & Gás will operate the remaining.

The delivery of the rigs has been scheduled to begin in 2016.

The company also verified facility suitability, supplier commitment for inputs and key equipment packages for the rigs, environmental licensing, health, safety and environment management, contract management, as well as the legal and financial aspects.
