Petrofac’s joint venture with Samsung Engineering has received an order worth $2bn for the development of Duqm Refinery project in Oman.

The contract has been awarded by Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries (DRPIC) and the refinery will be located in the southern part of Oman.

The scope of the contract secured by Petrofac and Samsung includes engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, training and start-up operations for all the utilities and offsites at Duqm.

It will be developed over a period of 47 months.

The contract’s work is subject to financial closure and full notice to proceed from DRPIC.

Considered as a strategic investment for the Sultanate of Oman, the project will be spread over 2,000 acres of land.

Upon completion, it will have a refining capacity of nearly 230,000 barrels of oil per day.

Petrofac engineering & construction group managing director E Sathyanarayanan said: “This significant project represents our twelfth in the country and serves to reinforce Petrofac’s commitment to one of our core markets; one in which we have been present since 1988.

“Furthermore, it provides a valuable opportunity for us to continue to increase in-country value through engaging with the local supply chain and recruitment of local resources.”

In March, Oilfield services company Petrofac has received $1.3bn engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Kuwait Oil Company’s (KOC) gathering centre project, GC 32, located in the Burgan oil field, south east of Kuwait.

Under the contract, Petrofac will be responsible for the development of a gathering centre, which will process crude oil and gas recovered from Arifjan, Marat, Minagish Oolite and Burgan Wara high hydrogen sulphide fields.

Recently, Petrofac secured contracts worth over $100m for construction management, engineering, commissioning and start-up services for two International Oil Companies (IOCs) in Iraq.
