The Adeline Sugar Factory (ASF) No. 4 well at the field has been drilled to a total depth of 4,663m while protective liner has been run to complete the well as a producer.
Production is scheduled to start within the next month.
Petsec Energy chairman Terry Fern said that the company is pleased with its first conventional exploration well drilled since the 2010 gas/condensate discovery at the Marathon Field is a success.
"Having suspended our shale oil strategy and returned to our core strength of conventional exploration, we look forward to continuing exploration success and growth in the value of the Company," Fern added.
The ASF No. 4 onshore exploration well’s newly discovered interval is a deeper target on a proven structure which earlier produced significant quantities of gas and condensate at shallower levels.
