The new technology, the Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) Validation Calculator, has been designed to aid pipeline operators to perform safe gas operations by validating the MAOP.

Under a four year license agreement between the two companies, MAOP Validation Calculator can be used by all the pipeline operators in Canada and US.

As per the agreement, PG&E will integrate the MAOP Validation Calculator with Coler & Colantonio’s software, Intrepid Geospatial Information System (GIS), to store the technology data within Intrepid GIS and calculate the MAOP accurately based on the information.

PG&E’s Gas Operations Asset Knowledge Management senior director Sumeet Singh said, "Through our collaboration with Coler & Colantonio, Inc., pipeline operators can now adopt the MAOP Validation Calculator and derive benefits that will allow them to more effectively manage critical asset information and enhance the safety of their gas transmission pipeline systems."

To determine a pipeline’s maximum allowable operating pressure the software incorporates the federal and state regulations into algorithms of the calculator which generates a standardized report and engineering analysis.

The technology also establishes an audit trail of the analysis within GIS to produce operational and regulatory reports.
