Conway and Wan assumed their new roles on April 1, 2009.

Most recently, Conway served as PG&E’s SVP, generation, and chief nuclear officer.

Within the new organization, Fong Wan, SVP, energy procurement, will continue to be responsible for managing PG&E’s diverse and substantial portfolio of power and natural gas supply. PG&E purchases around 60% of the power delivered to customers, complementing the company’s utility-owned generation. Wan’s organization is also responsible for all natural gas procurement activities on behalf of PG&E’s core natural gas customers. Wan reports to Conway.

Malnight will also be responsible for the development of PG&E’s emerging utility-owned renewable business. This newly created position will report to Wan.

PG&E has been very active in procuring new renewable projects and supply arrangements with renewable energy providers. In 2008, the company negotiated 1,800 megawatts of new renewable energy agreements and it recently filed an application with the California Public Utilities Commission for up to 500 megawatts of solar power, half of which will be utility-owned.

Malnight joined PG&E in 2002 as a member of the company’s MBA Leadership Program. Since then, he has held leadership roles at the director level in the company’s customer care and finance functions. Most recently, he has served as special assistant to the chairman, chief executive officer and president, Peter Darbee. Malnight holds an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from University of Notre Dame and an M.B.A. in finance from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

“By forming a new Energy Supply organization, we are establishing a single point for ensuring that PG&E is planning for and delivering the supplies of reliable, clean energy our customers count on,” said Peter A. Darbee, chairman, chief executive officer (CEO) and president of PG&E Corporation and president and CEO of PG&E. “John has demonstrated an exceptional ability to drive high performance and a talent for solid execution. We are confident he will bring the same strong leadership to his new role.”

“We are fully committed to increasing the supplies of renewable energy available for our customers,” said Darbee. “Creating this new position strengthens our renewables team and reflects the important role these initiatives will play in providing our customers with renewable energy in the future. Steve’s leadership will be a tremendous asset as we continue driving this area of the business.”
