The company seeks to reduce its customer billing rates in the state due to falling wholesale natural gas costs.

If approved, the filing would reduce Piedmont’s gas cost benchmark by about 70% since 2008.

The company has also entered into a settlement of a September general rate case with the Attorney General’s Consumer Advocate office and has filed the settlement with the TRA for approval.

If approved, the settlement would lower Piedmont’s original request for $16.7m in additional revenues to $11.9m, a reduction of about 29%, the company said.

The net effect of the company’s two filings would be to lower the average residential customer’s natural gas bill from about $739 per year to about $685 per year, or a decrease of over 7%.
