The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has approved the sale of the Pilgrim nuclear plant. Entergy is buying the plant from Boston Edison. FERC had deferred its decision on the sale earlier, saying Boston Edison needed to work out agreements with 14 local municipal utilities over the handling of decommissioning costs. On 1 April, Boston Edison applied for emergency relief from the deferral. On 7 April, FERC issued an Order authorising the sale of the plant.
The sale requires two final approvals. An NRC order transferring the operating license to Entergy is in its final stages, and a tax ruling on the transfer of the decommissioning fund is with the IRS.
