The Hong Kong-based utility China Light and Power (CP&P) has placed an order with Pirelli Cables for a 400 kV cable circuit. The 12.5 km interconnection will link two substations in order to boost supply for urban development.
The cable will use laminated paper as insulation, reducing heat losses by up to 1000 MWh each year. Work will start in 2001 and completion is scheduled for early 2004.
