The scheme – comprising two plants and being renamed ‘Toba Montrose’ – is also on schedule and budget is being maintained on the fixed price contract as winter work gets underway. It is due to be commissioned mid-2010.

The scheme has two plants – 123MW East Toba and 73MW Montrose Creek. The contractor on the engineering, procurement and construction job is Peter Kiewit Sons Co.

The Canadian hydro developer started construction of the scheme in mid-2007. The project had been accepted under BC Hydro’s 2006 Open call for renewable energy projects and then went through approvals processes.

Key funding for the project has come from GE Energy Financial Services.

Like many other renewable energy entrepreneurs in western Canada, Plutonic has a growing portfolio of small hydro projects also in early planning and development.
