This plant we are announcing today will take about 18 months to two years to be built, just in time for our 5 per cent mandate, New South Wales lands minister Tony Kelly said.

It will almost cover that mandate by itself.

This is great for Wollongong in particular. My understanding is there will be 235 jobs full-time when this plant is up and going.

Kelly says it will generate a further 500 jobs in the construction phase and over 700 jobs in related industries.

Chairman of National Biodiesel, Edward Dutton, says the company already supplies biodiesel for the mining, agricultural, civil and construction industries.

Mr Dutton says once the plant is close to completion, they will be looking to employ people in a variety of fields.

People applying for jobs will be from factory operators, laboratory technicians, driving fraternity, silo control – those are the type of descriptions, as well as accountants and office workers, he said.
