The permit, upon issuance, would allow Powertech to dispose of its brine waste water down a deep well after removal of radionuclides. The permit is one of several required in order to construct and operate the company’s proposed uranium in situ operation in southwestern South Dakota.

The US EPA, who has the federal jurisdiction for underground injection control permits, also received the company’s UIC Class III permit application in late 2008 and accepted it as being complete in early 2009.

With the submission of this Class V UIC permit application, the Region 8 EPA office will have received both required permit applications from Powertech for the Dewey-Burdock Project.

Richard Clement, president and CEO of Powertech, said: “I am pleased to report that Powertech has submitted this underground injection permit application to the EPA.

”Through our direct communication as well as the benefit of reviewing comments by the EPA on recently filed UIC applications, I am confident that the EPA will find this application addresses their requirements.”
