Involving construction of new electrical substations and a new 230kV power line in Lackawanna and Wayne counties, the $335m project seeks to boost electric service reliability for PPL Electric Utilities’ customers in the Poconos, and surrounding areas of northeast Pennsylvania, US.

Additional project work is planned to enhance existing 69kV power lines in the region, and will also reduce the number of outages in the area and the duration of outages caused by severe weather and falling trees.

The project is also expected to benefit customers in Carbon, Luzerne, Monroe and Pike counties.

PPL Electric Utilities Transmission and Substation vice president Stephanie Raymond said, ”Investing in our system and keeping it strong means more reliable service for customers.”

The company is currently working with various agencies to secure necessary environmental permits for the project, which is anticipated to complete in 2017.
