The expansion, which coincides with renewal of deals with multiple existing pipeline customers, will include installation of operating equipment and systems.

Planned to be commissioned in 2017, the 1,650 tons per day ASU will produce liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon and rare gases as well as supply existing pipeline customers.

Praxair US industrial gases business central region vice-president Joe Abdoo said: "We understand that efficient and reliable supply of industrial gases to our customers’ operations in the area is critical to their success and our expanded capacity will continue to help us meet growing customer needs."

Praxair operates the air separation plant and pipeline system in Michigan, which includes five ASUs and a hydrogen production facility along the border of Ecorse and River Rouge.

The industrial gases are used by manufacturers to operate their plants and improve their productivity and environmental performance.
