The e-Stewards Recycler Certification standard ensures that recyclers will never export hazardous e-wastes to developing countries, dump them in municipal landfills or incinerators, or use prison populations as labor.

It also calls for protection of customer’s private data and occupational health safeguards to ensure that workers in recycling plants are not exposed to toxic dusts and fumes.

Ken Manchen, corporate director of safety, health and environment affairs at Premier Farnell, Americas, said: ”We have pledged to use e-Stewards recyclers to assure that our computer-related electronic waste will be responsibly recycled, and will not be exported to developing countries.

”E-steward recyclers submit to third party verification audits, and e-steward standards are the best in the business.”

Premier Farnell has also recently secured the Carbon Trust Standard (CTS) for measuring, managing and reducing its carbon footprint for its UK-based operations and has committed to further reductions year on year. The company claimed that it has already reduced its global carbon footprint by 20% within a period of three years.
