PRENEAL Canada Project Director, Daniel LeBlanc says that the company is pleased to partner with these three communities. Earlier 2009, four other municipalities also signed a partnership agreement to develop a 100 MW wind farm in the Restigouche area.

“We’ve always said that our projects work better when we have local partners and they can share in the benefits of our wind farms. The development of these projects has been on going for the last two years and this is a formalization of our partnership.”

In 2008 fall, Preneal Canada brought representatives from Memramcook and Caraquet to visit the company’s wind farm installations in Spain, where they also met with local community leaders to discuss economic and social benefits.

The agreement also establishes a regional charitable foundation which will provide financial support to the community through grants for projects and activities related to the environment, education, scholarships, recreation, and health care.

The next step for the Greater Caraquet and Memramcook wind farm projects involves obtaining long term power purchase agreements with Energie NB Power.
