During the construction phase, the £160m facility on land close to the northern side of the Transporter Bridge at Port Clarence would create 20 permanent and hundreds of jobs in the construction phase.

Gazette Live cited Prism Planning managing director Steve Barker as saying that the 49MW scheme received strong support from Stockton Council.

"It was supported by the officers of the council, and members were so supportive that it didn’t need to go to planning committee.
"The funding team was in place from day one.

"At a time when the security of gas supplies from Russia is very much in the media spotlight after recent events, it is great to see that Stockton is helping to deliver practical alternatives.

"Work will start as soon as possible on-site and we’ve no reason to think this wouldn’t be up and running in a couple of years."
Eco2 will finance the project.
