The 1,875 MW Brunswick station is situated in Southport in Brunswick county around 160 miles (260 km) south of Raleigh. The station has two units, 938 MW unit 1 and the 937 MW unit 2 which have entered service in 1977 and 1975.

The unit 1 at the station continued to operate at full power.

One MW powers around 700 homes in North Carolina.

The NRC has renewed the plant’s original 40-year operating licenses in 2006, for both units for additional 20 years until 2036 and 2034.
