Prysmian has received €350m contract from IFA2 SAS, a joint venture of National Grid IFA2 and RTE, for the turn-key design, manufacture and installation of a submarine and land power cable link toonnect Tourbe in France to Chilling in Hampshire of the UK.
The high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnection will allow the transfer of 1000MW of power between the UK and France.
The deal is also comprised of high voltage alternating current (HVAC) link that will connect the converter station to a local substation in Chilling of the UK, in addition to to the HVDC cable link.
Prysmian will produce subsea cables at its production facility in Pikkala of Finlad, while land cables at its factory in Gron of France. The system is expected to be operational in 2020.
ABB has received €270m order rom the UK grid operator National Grid and Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (RTE) to supply HVDC technology to interconnect the electricity networks of France and the UK.
The firm will offer the two high-voltage direct current HVDC Light converter stations, which will be installed in France and England. The converter stations will be linked with a subsea cable.
ABB’s HVDC Light technology includes advanced features, comprising of regulating grid fluctuations and power restoration in the event of an outage.
The converter stations will be installed with BB’s advanced MACH control and protection system, which will monitor, control and protect technology in the stations.
