Under the deal, Prysmian will provide engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning services for extra high voltage underground cable systems for a total of 173km of 220 kV cable and related network components.

The work is part of the stage two of phase XI of the Qatar power transmission system expansion project that includes replacement of an overhead line with an underground cable system.

Prysmian will carry out the project through its offices in Qatar, using production from Gron, France and Livorno, Italy.

The first circuits installation is due to commence in 2014 with completion planned in 2016.

Prysmian Middle East general manager Antonio Chiantore said the contract reflects KAHRAMAA’S trust in the company’s capabilities to meet the needs for the development of new power grids in Qatar.

"We have already supplied and installed other sections within the KAHRAMAA power transmission grid in Qatar and we are very happy to undertake this new project," Chiantore added.
