Qatar Petroleum owns 70% of the facility, while US-based energy giant ExxonMobil owns the remaining 30%. The facility’s completion has been delayed due to labor and equipment shortages resulting from increased construction activity in the Middle East, according to the news source.

The newest liquefied natural gas (LNG) train is expected to increase Qatar’s annual LNG production capacity from 31 million tonnes to around 38 million tonnes. This facility was due to be inaugurated in winter 2007, but is now expected to come on-line in late 2008.

The news source noted that the next LNG production train is due to be commissioned in 2009, with each train having a capacity to produce 7.8 million tonnes of LNG per year.

An import terminal is also under construction in South Hook, Wales, to receive the gas from Qatar. According to project partner ExxonMobil, the import terminal is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2008.
