Under the agreement, Qatargas will supply 1.0 million tons per annum (MTA) of LNG starting 2012 on a long term basis.
TEPCO managing director Takao Arai said, "Having continuously been provided with the smooth and stable delivery from Qatargas since its first cargo received, we are confident that today’s execution of the contract between Qatargas, the world’s largest LNG supplier, and TEPCO has further deepened the good relationship between the two companies and will greatly contribute to our future stable procurement of LNG".
With this new agreement the total supply of LNG from Qatargas to TESCO will reach two million tons per annum in 2012, which represents 5% of Qatargas’ total production capacity.
This is the first bi-lateral agreement between Qatargas and the Japanese company.
TEPCO was part of the eight-party consortium that had signed a multi-party agreement with Qatargas back in 1994.
