Solar panel

The deal, which is claimed to be REC’s largest order to date in the US, follows a supply agreement it recently signed with Sunrun to deliver about 100MW of modules in 2015.

It also marks the first purchase orders for REC’s peak energy 72-cell panel series, which were unveiled in July 2014 targeting US utility and large commercial markets.

REC will supply the solar panels to the unnamed customer from July 2015 to February 2016.

REC Group CEO Martin Cooper said: "REC has already doubled its U.S. order intake over the past 12 months, thanks to the recent big wins with residential leaders SolarCity and Sunrun.

"With our new 72-cell product, we are seizing opportunities in the U.S. large commercial and utility markets and are demonstrating significant growth in line with our expectations."

REC said the utility segment accounts for the largest portion of solar installations in the US market.

GTM Research estimates that the sector will cross 3GW of new installations in 2014 and increase to around 6GW by 2016.

The majority of the growth is expected to come from Colorado, North Carolina, Georgia and Texas.
