Under development by Sasan Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, the INR270bn($4.3bn) Sasan plant is claimed to be the largest integrated power plant and coal mining project in the world.

The five other units, each with 660MW of capacity, of the project have already been commissioned.

The Sasan pit-head coal-based power plant has been allocated three captive coal mine blocks including Moher, Moher Amlori extension and Chhatrasal.

Electricity produced from the plant will be sold to 14 distribution companies across seven Indian states including Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, at a levelized tariff of Rs. 1.196/kwh.

Coal production has already started from the 20MTPA Moher and Moher-Amlohri mines.
