The two organizations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which formalizes the participation of a working team of representatives from Willington City Council and Nissan in the identification of potential areas of co-operation in promoting the use of zero emission vehicles in the city.

Kerry Prendergast, mayor of Wellington, took a test drive of the Nissan Leaf EV accompanied by Hideaki Watanabe, corporate vice president of zero emissions business unit at Nissan Motor Company, following which the MoU was signed in Japan.

John Manley, managing director of Nissan, New Zealand, said: “Technology for zero emissions mobility is a reality and we are prepared to proactively explore ways to bring this technology to New Zealand with collaboration from the Wellington administration.”

Mr Prendergast, said: “The City of Wellington is looking at the benefits of introducing and expanding EV technology.

“This MoU formalizes discussions with the Nissan Motor Company which is among the global leaders in the development of EVs and demonstrates our commitment to supporting EV technologies.”

Renault-Nissan has collaborated with more than 60 governments, cities and other organizations globally, including Japan, US, Europe, Asia and Australia, to advance the deployment of EVs worldwide.
