More jobs will be created out of it and will also help in lift the world out of recession. Immediate and reliable energy for more than 600 million Indians can be provided who have no access to electricity at present.

“Unlike other energy scenarios that promote energy futures at the cost of the climate, our energy revolution scenario shows how to save money and maintain global economic development without fueling catastrophic climate change. All we need to kick start this plan is bold energy policy from India’s leaders,” Sven Teske, Greenpeace International’s renewable energy expert and lead author of the report said.

At present, the renewable energy market was worth $70 billion and doubling every three years. Because of economy of scales, renewable energies such as wind power at good sites were already competitive with conventional power. From 2015 onwards, renewable energies across all sectors will be the most cost effective energy capacities, the report said.

“There is a huge opportunity in going green now given the fact that India is still developing its energy infrastructure and has the human and intellectual capital to be world leaders on this front” European Renewable Energy Council Policy Director Oliver Schafer said.
