The gas has been discovered at a depth of 1,307m while the well testing resulted in a gas flow rate of 175,000 cubic meters per day (m³/day) and 90 barrels per day (bbl/d) of condensate with a 32/64" choke.
Appraisal work is due to be carried out later in order to determine the size of the discovery.
The TESO-2 is the first well of the second exploration program being implemented under the Sud-Est Illizi license.
The drilling program includes at least four additional appraisal wells.
During the first exploration phase, two discoveries were made including TIHS-1 and TDE-1 wells in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Repsol operates and hold 52.5% in the Sud-Est Illizi license while other partners include GDF SUEZ (20%) and Enel Spa (27.5 %). Sonatrach will hold a 51% stake in the development and production phases, with the existing members maintaining their existing proportions in the remaining 49%.
Repsol is currently undertaking one production operation Tin-Fouyé Tabankort, one development project Reggane Nord, and two exploration blocks Sud-Est Illizi and Boughezoul, in Algeria.
The company produces approximately 8,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day in the region.
