The wind farm is scheduled to becom operational before the end of this year and is expected power at least 19,000 homes Ohio.

RES completed the project development part and transferred the ownership of wind project to EDPR this year. The wind farm will include 30 of Vestas V110 2.2MW turbines, totalling the capacity to 66MW.

For the project, a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO). The PPA was facilitated by the National Renewables Cooperative Organization (NRCO).

During the peak of the construction, the wind project is expected to create about 235 jobs and up to seven permanent jobs, once operational.

RES Americas Origination vice president Shalini Ramanathan said: “RES is grateful to the surrounding community for being supportive during the development cycle for this project. That patience has paid off and now Hog Creek Wind Project will bring significant benefits to the region.

“RES is pleased to construct our third project for EDP Renewables, a tremendous partner in bringing the benefits of renewable energy to communities across North America.”

The Hog Creek Wind Project will add to EDPR’s portfolio of 260MW in Ohio, while contributing significantly to the regional economy. The wind project is expected to contribute about $594,000 per year in terms of property taxes and more than $10m to local landowners throughout the life of the project.

EDP Renewables North America, Eastern Region and Canada Executive Vice President Ryan Brown said: “The Hog Creek Wind Project is a great addition to EDP Renewables’ growing wind portfolio in Ohio. Moreover, EDP Renewables is eager to make additional investments in Ohio to provide more economic benefits to the state’s residents and its communities.

“EDP Renewables applauds those who are working to ease Ohio’s onerous siting regulations, which, if amended, would encourage more wind development in the state.”
