The company is planning to sell the stones at its annual tender of rare colored stones later during 2013. It is said to be the first sale in which red diamonds are being offered at the tender in 30-year history of the Argyle diamond mine.

Commenting on the discoveries, Argyle Pink Diamonds manager Josephine Johnson noted that only six diamonds bearing certification from the Gemmological Institute of America as fancy red have been presented for sale at the annual tender.

"The intrinsic beauty and unrivalled colour intensity of this red diamond is symbolic of its East Kimberley birthplace and the treasures that lie within the depths of the new underground mine," added Johnson.

"To have three of these rare red diamonds in one tender is a very special moment in time."

The annual Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender is an exhibition for the best stones of a year’s production from the Argyle mine.

This year, the tender will feature a total of 64 diamonds, including 58 pink diamonds, three fancy red diamonds and three blue diamonds that were cut and polished in Western Australia by Rio Tinto’s craftsmen.
