The company secured the grant from the US Forest Service’s woody biomass utilization grant program and will use the funds to optimize the plant’s ability to utilize low value biomass.

Rollcast president Penn Cox said, "This grant will help us utilize more low grade woody biomass from thinning and hazardous fuel treatment operations."

US Forests Service biomass coordinator for the Southern Region Dan Len said that the project will accomplish multiple objectives for the agency in the Georgia and Alabama.

"These objectives include increased use of woody biomass from thinning and hazardous fuels treatments, improved market for this low value material and increased use of woody biomass for wood to energy," added Len.

Atlantic Power Corporation owns a 60% stake in the company that has a portfolio of biomass power projects in development and construction.
