Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom opened a regional office in India on 20 October at a ceremony held during the India Nuclear Energy international conference and exhibition. Aleksey Pimenov, president of the Russian state nuclear corporation's South Asia region said: "Historically, India is one of our key foreign partners. Two power units of Russian design are already operating at the Kudankulam NPP site and two more are under construction. To increase the state corporation's market presence, it was decided to open a regional centre in Mumbai. This will enable us to join forces with our Indian partners and enhance the performance of Russian nuclear enterprises operating in India." Rosatom now has 12 regional offices around the world.
Pimenov added that the establishment of a global network of regional centres reflected the expansion of Rosatom’s global presence and a long-term development strategy, according to which Rodstom aims to increase the portfolio of foreign orders to $190bn for the next five years. Similar regional centres are already operating in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, Central Asia, East and South-East Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.
