According to Shell, the high-end platform is said to bring improved evaluation and visualization capabilities to the company.

Complementing Shell’s existing applications, including GeoSigns, the platform will also allow geoscience and petroleum engineering experts to better plan and manage the extraction of oil and gas resources.

Based on the Baker Hughes JewelEarth software platform, the system will be optimized for resource modeling and production in tight/shale gas and liquids rich shale reservoirs.

Baker Hughes chief technology officer Mario Ruscev said the JewelEarth platform uses one generic data source to handle multiple solutions, from basin to wellbore scale.

"This capability will provide an innovative modelling and optimization platform for the fast-growing Shell user community," Ruscev added.

The platform, which will form part of an integrated working environment for the company’s exploration and modeling experts, will also complement its software that is used to visualize and interpret seismic data, Shell said.
