Wijers served as a non-executive director of the company and chairman of its remuneration committee, and a member of the nomination and succession committee.
Wijers will replace Lord Kerr of Kinlochard, who will be standing as a non-executive director of the Company.
The company said Josef Ackermann has been appointed a member of the Nomination and Succession Committee with effect from 23 May 2012.
Josef Ackermann served as a non-executive director since 2008 and a member of the remuneration committee.
Shell also announced its plan to nominate Nigel Sheinwald for election as a non-executive director, to start from 1 July 2012.
Sheinwald will take place as the member of the company’s corporate and social responsibility committee.
All the proposed appointments are subject to the relevant directors being elected or re-elected, scheduled to be held on 22 May 2012.
