The five-year cooperation agreement has been signed by Rosenergoatom CEO Evgeny Romanov with Iran, reported Russian news agency Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today).

Under the terms of the agreement, Rosatom’s subsidiary Rosenergoatom will construct new power stations at the Bushehr plant.

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization and Rosatom signed an agreement in 2014 to construct the second and third units of Bushehr Power Plant.

Meanwhile, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has announced that Bushehr nuclear power plant is being closed for a two-month refueling and maintenance outage, reported Tasnim News Agency.

The power plant will be reconnected to the grid during summer when the electricity consumption in the country reaches a peak.
The Bushehr nuclear power plant is located 17km southeast of the city of Bushehr along the Persian Gulf.

Russia signed an $800m contract in 1995 to complete the stalled work on the facility.

The plant started operations in May 2011.

The single Russian VVER-1000 reactor installed at Bushehr produces about 1,000MW of power, about 2.5% of Iran’s electricity usage.
