The agreement was signed during state president Tadic’s visit to Berlin to meet German chancellor Angela Merkel.
RWE will be looking at three potential locations on the Danube, Morava and Drina rivers. The Drina site is located in Republika Srpska, an entity of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Republika Srpska is also supporting the project as it is of cross-border significance for energy supply in the whole region.
The hydro pumped-storage power plant technology will tap the extensive hydropower potential in the region and secure CO2-free energy supply to the population there.
