Sacramento has received the grant as part of the $204m grants awarded by the state for various water projects, reports Sacramento Bee.

An amount of $1.5m will utilized for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District co-generation power plant, to switch from using potable cooling water to recycled sewage effluent.

The city will use $8m to build new a pipeline and pump stations from the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District treatment plant.

The funds will also be used to install 840 water meters in Sacramento, the Sacramento Suburban Water District and the Sacramento County Water Agency.

Water-conservation programs, including conservation audits and a low-flow toilet-installation program that will target low-income and disadvantaged communities will also be carried out with the funds.

Habitat projects will include restoring 142 acres of floodplain habitat at the Cosumnes River Preserve and restoring riparian habitat on the American River.
