The nickel-cadmium batteries will be manufactured at the Amco Saft India plant in Bangalore. They have been selected for this power back-up function because of their characteristics in terms of robustness and reliability, length of life and maximum maintenance intervals, said Saft.

With a value of INR37.5 million, this contract reportedly represents the single largest order for this type of battery received by Amco Saft India.

Xavier Delacroix, Saft’s industrial battery group director, said: This prestigious order is a breakthrough for our group in this important sector in the fast-growing Indian market. It represents a major market for Saft where there is potential to significantly expand our existing client base.
