These investments by General Motors and Itochu Technology will enable Sakti3 to commercialize its battery cells for use in the automotive and portables energy sectors.

Sakti3’s solid-state advanced lithium-ion battery technology is claimed to have the potential for powering electric vehicles and other portable consumer energy devices.

The investment by GM in Sakti3’s battery technology is looked upon as a testament to the fact that many US companies, especially Michigan companies, are thriving as the auto industry moves toward a future of technologically advanced EVs.

GM president Jon Lauckner said that GM Ventures is making strategic investments in new technology to support its core automotive business.

“Our investment in Sakti3 gives us access to an innovative battery technology that has the potential to be a mainstream solution for electrically-driven cars and trucks of the future,” Lauckner said.
