Said to be the largest operating solar energy project in Canada and one of the largest in North America, the power plant features 440,000 Canadian Solar CS6X modules, 100 1MW transformers and 200 inverters of 500kW each.

The substation includes a solar transformer (65/86/108MVA).

The GRS, which created up to 450 construction jobs, is the fourth project under the green energy investment agreement signed by Samsung with the Ontario Government.

Samsung C&T CEO Shin Kim said: "This project is now producing one hundred megawatts of clean energy, and has created hundreds of high-skilled jobs and millions of dollars in community investment, all of which are benefiting real people in Haldimand and across the province."

The solar project is designed to produce enough clean energy to meet the needs of over 17,000 households while reducing dependence on fossil fuel energy in the region.

The project will also reduce approximately 162,000t of CO2 emissions.
