Under the contract with PRPC Glycols, a unit of Petronas’ petrochemical entity Petronas Chemicals Group, Samsung Engineering is responsible for the RAPID package11 EO/EG project.

The $577m RAPID package 11 project involves construction of 740,000 MTPA ethylene glycol plant.

Featuring Shell Global’s technology, the plant will also include EO/EG tank farm as well as tank truck loading rack and drumming warehouse.

Additionally, Samsung Engineering has been selected by PRPC Polymers, a subsidiary of Petronas Chemicals, for the $305m package 6A linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) project.

The project will have a production capacity of 350,000 MTPA, and use Ineos Technologies’ license. The scope of work also includes a polymers tank farm.

Planned to be developed in Pengerang, southern Johor, the two plants are scheduled to be completed in 2019.

In October, Technip was selected to supply three hydrogen reformers for the Rapid project.

The Rapid project is part of the Petronas’s $27bn Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) development, which also includes the Pengerang co-generation plant (PCP), re-gasification terminal 2 (RGT2), air separation unit, raw water supply project (PAMER), crude and product tanks (SPV2) as well as central and shared utilities and facilities (UF).

PIC is part of Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Program (ETP) which aims to meet future energy requirement.

The refinery project is expected to create 70,000 jobs during construction phase and 4,000 jobs upon completion.
