Saudi Arabia has agreed to lend an extra US$57.8M to help build the 106MW Golen Gol hydroelectric project in Pakistan.
The two countries officially signed an agreement during a recent visit to Islamabad by Saudi Crown Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Golen Gol is being developed by Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). It is located on the river Golen Gol Nullah, a tributary of the river Mastuj in North West Frontier Province, and is expected to generate 436GWh per year.
Saudi Arabia has already provided US$40M in funding for the project development, and the additional finance is expected to help ensure the project is completed next year.
