The agreement to market the data management software was reached after intensive efforts between Saudi Aramco’s EXPEC Computer Center, new business evaluation department, intellectual assets management and law divisions, as well as the Aramco Services Company (ASC).
That co-operation is part of the corporate strategy to protect Saudi Aramco’s intellectual assets and promote in-house technologies to the outside world. The software offers a new concept in the management of large bodies of scientific data for the geosciences environment, based on a generic set of services.
These services are designed to provide data management in a collaborative working environment for field acquisition, processing and seismic interpretation work groups. This provides data of known quality to geoscientists and ensures that energy exploration and development decisions are based on the most accurate and comprehensive data.
Saudi Aramco has said that the concept and technology was created in 2003 as a result of the need to better manage exploration and production data. Years of research went into formulating the idea and developing it from concept to reality. With the granting of Data Services System (DSS) commercial licensing rights to Petris, other energy companies are anticipated to show interest in this technology.
