With 60 years’ experience in delivering Bioenergy projects across Europe, the company holds patents on key technologies to improve feed and combustion efficiency, which in turn reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions.
The Southampton-based company is currently collaborating with consultants, contractors and investors to deliver combined heat and power (CHP) plants, district heating, electrical production and process steam for manufacturing, using biomass combustion. These plants are capable of converting 6,000 to 80,000 tonnes of waste wood per annum into renewable energy and heat, a fuel source that would otherwise be sent to landfill or exported.

With capabilities to provide complete solutions including engineering, procurement and construction, or key component technology, the firm’s proven waste wood combustion solutions are fully IED (Industrial Emissions Directive) compliant, delivering a guaranteed minimum 8,000 hours operation between shutdown inspections.
Saxlund has partnered with Axis Industries, Lithuania’s largest engineering company, to bring Axis’ EPC contract management processes and pioneering automatic and electro-engineering equipment to its biomass projects. The move represents a new European mega engineering capability with around 1,000 employees and a combined turnover of around €100 million.
In addition to waste wood biomass plants, the company will be presenting its full range of solutions for combustion, waste from energy and bulk materials handling and storage, referencing dozens of sites across Europe. Recent projects in the waste sector highlighting the breadth of Saxlund’s experience include the Fuel Handling System for the 50MWe Markinch CHP in Scotland, a RDF reception, storage, weighing and conveying system for Hope Construction and a new RDF Push Floor for SSE at Slough Heat and Power.
