The storage systems will enhance the power reliability and efficiency on constrained single-wire high-voltage distribution lines, known as single wire earth return (SWER) lines.
Under the contract, S&C Electric will also supply S&C’s IntelliTeam DEM Distributed Energy Management System to optimize and control the fleet of CES units throughout their SWER network for Ergon Energy.
Ergon Chief Executive Ian McLeod said: "Using a battery-based system in place of traditional network augmentation will not only deliver better value for Ergon and our customers, but it will help drive similar technology adoption on the electricity network."
S&C Electric Company Business Development & Product Management, Power Quality Products manager Troy Miller said: "SWER lines are used to support remote locations, and energy storage is an ideal solution for improving the power reliability, quality and efficiency for rural-area customers served by these networks.
"Ergon is deferring those transmission and distribution costs and investing in an energy storage solution that provides a wider range of benefits for their customers."
S&C Asia Pacific business unit vice president David Myers said: "The PureWave CES has been used in the United States and the United Kingdom, but this is the first time it is being used in Australia, demonstrating how S&C is applying its global expertise to important utility projects in Australia."
