Scania will supply buses for city, suburban and regional traffic. The buses will be stationed at SL’s depots in Bromma, Tyreso and Sodertalje outside central Stockholm.

The buses will feature Scania’s five-cylinder 270hp ethanol diesel engines, which claim to meet Euro 5 and EEV emission standards. Delivery of the buses is scheduled to begin in August.

The contract with Scania is an initiative taken by Stockholm County Council, owner of SL, to meet its target of facilitating 50% of all passenger transport in its territory using renewable fuels by 2012.

Ethanol vehicles, which accounts for around 90% of renewable fuel vehicles available today, is claimed to reduce fossil carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90%.
