The acquisition of SOS Metals Island Recycling, which has been collecting and recycling scrap metal from the Maui community for nearly five years, will enable Schnitzer Steel to continue its strategy of expanding metals recycling business to better serve its customers throughout the world.

Post acquisition, Schnitzer Steel and SOS Metals Island Recycling will work together to recycle metal scraps in the Maui, thereby strengthening Schnitzer Steel’s recycling operations in the region, while helping the local community.

Schnitzer Steel president of metals recycling business Don Hamaker said that SOS Metals Island Recycling is a leading supplier of ferrous and nonferrous materials, which strengthens their operations in Maui and all of the Hawaiian Islands.
