EnXco will own and construct the plant, while SDG&E will purchase the power generated from the plant.

The plant will be constructed plant in two phases on 1,100 acres of land in Kern County.

The Catalina solar plant will deliver 50MW and 60MW of energy in the first phase and the second phases, which are expected to become operational by the end of 2012 and mid of 2013, respectively.

SDG&E vice president of procurement Matt Burkhart said the plant will be capable of generating clean energy, which is sufficient to power about 35,000 homes.

The project will be connect to the statewide power grid via Southern California Edison’s Tehachapi renewable transmission project (TRTP).

The TRTP is a CPUC-approved transmission upgrade, that has been constructed specially to deliver green energy to the state’s power grid from remote areas of power generation.

enXco vice president for southwest region Mark Tholke said Catalina Solar will bring the total capacity under the long-term agreements with SDG&E to 310MW including 60MW Oasis Wind and 140MW Pacific Wind both located in Kern County.
