The company will buy 315MW of wind energy under the 20-year power purchase agreement, which requires approval from the California Public Utilities Commission.

If all government approvals are provided on a timely basis, the wind project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

The electricity generated by the wind farm will be transmitted from the Imperial County area to San Diego through the 500kV Sunrise Powerlink transmission line, currently under construction.

SDG&E said that it has committed to obtaining 33% of its electricity from renewable resources by 2020.

SDG&E is a regulated public utility that provides energy service to about 3.4 million consumers in San Diego and southern Orange counties.
