Phase 1 of the Knob Hill wind farm, located 35km northwest of Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island, within the traditional territories of the Quatsino, Tlatlasikwala, and Kwakiutl First Nations, is expected to generate enough electricity to power the homes of approximately 100,000 British Columbians.

The project has secured a 20 year electricity purchase agreement (EPA) from British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority. The company plans to begin construction on phase1 of the project in 2011, with a target date for delivery of electric power in late 2012.

As per the terms of the agreement, Sea Breeze will be provided with an option to purchase equity positions in the project in addition to receiving a developer’s fee and an ongoing revenue royalty for the duration of the EPA.

Paul Manson, president and CEO of Sea Breeze, said: “We are extremely pleased that International Power Canada has chosen to invest in the Knob Hill wind farm. We see this as a very positive vote of confidence by one of the world’s leading power generation companies for the future of British Columbia’s renewable energy industry.”
