After a construction period of only two years Siemens Power Generation Group has handed over the Seabank 2 combined cycle gas turbine plant located in Bristol to operators Seabank Power Ltd, under a year after the completion of Seabank 1 by the same company. The natural gas fired plant, capacity 386 MW, has a secondary function of frequency stabilisation under critical conditions. It has to be capable of increasing or reducing power output by 77 MW within ten seconds in event of a frequency reduction of 0.8 Hz.

The plant’s advanced combined cycle technology allows efficiencies of 56 per cent to be achieved. It consists of a Siemens V94.3A gas turbine manufactured in Berlin and a steam turbine and generator from the company’s plant in Mulheim. Siemens power plant installed in the UK now amounts to almost 6500 MW.
