Under a 15-year power and water purchase agreement, the facility will provide power and water to the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company, a company wholly-owned by the Government of Oman.

The Salalah IWPP includes a 490MW gas-fired power plant and a seawater desalination plant with a total water production capacity of 69,000m³ per day.

First phase of the project was completed in July 2011, within a 19 month period.

The second phase was subsequently completed in the first half of 2012 and with completion of third and final phases, the plant will begin commercial operations.

Sembcorp Salalah Power and Water Company a joint venture between between Sembcorp Utilities and Oman Investment Corp.

Sembcorp Group president and CEO Tang Kin Fei said the successful completion of the Salalah IWPP will be a significant milestone for Sembcorp and reaffirms its capabilities as a global energy and water player.

"With the completion of the Salalah IWPP, our second project in the Middle East, we look forward to continue expanding our presence in this region," said Fei.
